WooCommerce version 10.9 was officially launched on June 23, 2026. The new release is a combination of performance upgrades with powerful tools that will directly improve your daily online store management.
Whether you are a developer looking to build automation or a merchant wanting a faster store, here is a breakdown of the most impactful features in WooCommerce 10.9!
What’s Changing in WooCommerce 10.9
WooCommerce 10.9 introduces great optimizations to the checkout flow, significantly reducing server load during flash sales or busy periods. This is good news for high-traffic stores especially.
Faster Checkouts, Lower Database Pressure
Prior to 10.9, WooCommerce created a draft order whenever a shopper visited the checkout page. Now, creating this draft has been deferred closer to the moment when the customer is actually placing an order. This improvement will reduce the amount of draft order rows within your site’s database, streamlining its overall performance.
Seravo’s hosting for WordPress uses MariaDB to ensure exceptional speed, reliability, and security. By optimizing queries and ensuring stability with our 10+ year expertise, our powerful stack keeps even data-heavy websites running smoothly and loading fast.
Transactional Email Logging
Email logging is now a built-in feature! Say goodbye to worries when troubleshooting missing order confirmations. Previously this feature was only achieved by installing a separate plugin.
Now, you can easily review send attempts for emails, check the final delivery outcome, and see reasons for errors and sending failures. You can find this feature under the menu WooCommerce > Status > Logs.
At Seravo, SMTP is preconfigured and included in your hosting plan. You can always turn to us and ask our WordPress experts if you have concerns or questions regarding the email traffic of your web store.
Improved WooCommerce Admin View
Version 10.9 updates the WooCommerce dashboard to correspond the look and feel of the current WordPress design system. The overall view is less cluttered, and the admin is more responsive for managing your store on mobile devices.
Experimental & Beta Features
Thanks to Automattic’s recent intensive hackathon, Woo version 10.9 is packed with additional, experimental tools. Check them out and decide if they can support or inspire the future of your ecommerce site!
1. Canonical WooCommerce Domain Abilities
WooCommerce 10.9 introduces the first set of unified “abilities” for product and order operations. This restructuring replaces old, one-to-one REST endpoint wrappers with permission-checked, schema-backed business operations. This change lays the structural groundwork for automation and AI assistants for managing products and orders. More information here.
2. Color Swatches and Visual Attributes
The wc-visual attribute type has been officially moved into the feature settings. If your site is using a block theme, you can now create visual attributes so customers can see actual color blocks or image swatches in the Product Filters and Variation Selector widgets, instead of generic dropdown text. See an example and read more here.
3. Developer Toolkit: Dual API & GraphQL Infrastructure
If your site’s PHP version is 8.1 or newer, 10.9 includes an experimental dual API. This allows you to define an authoritative code API using PHP classes and automatically generate a matching GraphQL API during development. This is a major win for headless architectures.
“The basic idea is to define an authoritative code API in PHP classes, then generate a matching GraphQL API from those classes during development. Executable classes become queries and mutations, while DTOs become input and output types.”

How to Update WooCommerce
WooCommerce 10.9 is fully backwards-compatible, though as per usual, a database update is necessary for updating. It’s a good idea to always ensure you have a full backup of your site and test the update in a staging environment before pushing it live to your production store.
At Seravo, we handle backups automatically, and all hosting plans that support WooCommerce have several staging environments at your disposal.
