When you need to centralize services like websites, domains, and emails, where should you start looking for a solution?
Organized since 1949, the world’s biggest orienteering relay event, The Jukola Relay (Jukolan viesti), is just around the corner. The current organization behind the event is also a long-standing customer of Seravo. Aside from hosting the jukola.com website, the organizers of the event rely on essential online services, such as email.
Digital Needs of a Massive Global Sporting Event
Due to the sheer scale of the event, the website and the entire digital environment must have a robust foundation, just like the core fitness of an orienteer. Jukola found a comprehensive solution through the services of Seravo and Domainkeskus.
Toni Häkämies (Marketing Manager, Kotka-Jukola 2026) and Marko Kantaneva (Sales and Marketing Manager, Finnish Orienteering Federation) now share what the cooperation between Jukola and Seravo means.
Web hosting is often invisible:
when it works, you don’t even notice it.
The idea for the collaboration came about during a car ride, when Toni started reviewing the needs of the Jukola Relay. “I had worked with Domainkeskus before, and everything had run smoothly. In a way, it was a proper mix of guidance, planning, and coincidence,” Toni recalls.
Having A Good Hosting Partner Matters
Website hosting is often invisible: when it works, you don’t even notice it. However, in a large-scale WordPress project like jukola.com, being able to rely on the web host and the service performance is everything. “Oftentimes, when problems arise, people start looking elsewhere. For Jukola, Seravo has worked flawlessly,” says Marko Kantaneva.
He also emphasizes the practical benefits gained from centralizing digital services: “When hosting, domains, and emails are all in one place, unnecessary seams between services disappear. You don’t have to guess whose responsibility a problem is. A single partner understands the big picture and knows how to help. In a hectic event environment, that really holds massive practical value.”
In 2026, the Jukola Relay is held in Kotka, Finland. The most crucial detail is that every aspect of the event functions properly: arrangements for the competition, volunteer coordination, partnerships, and communications. The website is the most crucial channel that brings all these aspects together during the event week, as the jukola.com site hosts everything fro registration and schedules to live tracking and media services.
If the technology is perfect and everything runs smoothly, the organizers can focus on what matters. “That allows me to focus on partnerships and event content instead of answering technical troubleshooting questions,” Marko points out.
Genuine Cooperation and Support
When it comes to web hosting, what are the things that really matter? Toni emphasizes the significance of customer service above all. Seravo’s offering is not mere technical execution, but nurturing a genuine partnership:
“The server side is complete gibberish to me. Seravo has experts who are eager to build a bridge so that the customer understands. Even if something doesn’t strictly fall under their responsibility, they still help and advise. This kind of solution-oriented mindset is something I appreciate very highly.”
Seravo offers support to its customers in all matters related to hosting a WordPress website, and we offer additional features for digital agencies.
You don’t have to pay extra for good and fast service, as everything is included in your subscription. Free customer service can be reached by phone, email, and chat. If needed, plenty of instructions can also be found in the knowledge base at help.seravo.com.
Reliable Platform for High-Traffic WordPress Sites
Each year, organizing the Jukola Relay is a different experience, as the organizers and the event location change. This means that expertise and practices must always be transferred to a new team.
“When the technical platform stays the same and works reliably, the new organizer can adopt it quickly without having to learn a system from scratch. It shortens the handover phase significantly,” Marko explains.
To ensure that information flows smoothly between organizers and different years, the Finnish Orienteering Federation and Orienteering Finland Oy, together with the event owner Kaukametsäläiset ry, act as guarantors of continuity. There are processes and practices in the background regarding how information is documented and forwarded.
When technical solutions are clear and backed by a single, accountable partner, doing the work becomes significantly easier: accumulated knowledge isn’t lost, even if the organizer team changes.

Long-term commitment to the partnership has been one of Jukola’s most important policies and successes. When the same reliable partners journey along from year to year, trust never needs to be rebuilt from scratch.
This year, over 3,000 teams are expected at Kotka-Jukola. Managing this scale requires the infrastructure to be in order and tested long before the event.
Stability During Peak Web Traffic
When dealing with a massive event, website traffic is intermittent. A sudden surge of visitors to your website can be massive, putting the servers running the website to a stress test. From the website’s perspective, the duration of the event itself is the most critical moment. When tens of thousands of orienteers, fans, and media access the site simultaneously, the jukola.com infrastructure simply cannot crash.
The biggest challenges are traditionally related to traffic spikes right at the moments of registration and during the event week. In previous years, there have been situations where these services became overloaded.
Money isn’t always the main thing.
A hundred euros here or there doesn’t matter when you genuinely enjoy doing things together and you’re both on the same page.
“The most important thing is that the site scales according to traffic. The peak rush happens during the event, and that’s when the service must be available. Seravo has performed reliably. The same cannot be said for all web hosting providers,” Toni says. Seravo’s architecture is scalable, and the site has stayed up even when user numbers are high.
The digital legacy of jukola.com is complex: there are old and new site structures, security requirements, and various advertising agencies have been involved in development through the years. “Seravo has made it possible to turn the complex into something simple and clear. It frees us up to focus on the event itself, organizing it, and everything else we do.”

Finding Solutions Together
When discussing partnership, an important theme emerges: people. In a digital world, technology is an important tool, but meaningful cooperation still happens between people. When you have a dedicated contact person, answers to even the silly questions are found quickly.
“Money isn’t always the main thing. A hundred euros here or there doesn’t matter when you genuinely enjoy doing things together and you’re both on the same page. Partnership means that even if everything doesn’t always go perfectly, you still look for a solution together and don’t just abandon your buddy,” Toni summarizes.
Marko agrees with this sentiment: “The Jukola Relay is a unique combination of sports and community, it is a logistical masterpiece. Behind the event are hundreds of volunteers and dozens of partners who all want to succeed together. The attitude that a solution will be found together is also what we look for in our partners. Seravo has been a prime example of exactly this!”
Kotka-Jukola 2026: What to Expect?
The Jukola Relay will be held this year in Kotka on June 13–14, 2026, at the Kymi airfield. Kotka offers a magnificent event environment, and the airfield area makes it possible to welcome a large audience. Admission to the event itself is free, which according to Marko is a big deal: it lowers the threshold for people to show up, even those who don’t orienteer themselves.

Marko’s expectations also envision an even more experiential entirety: “I’m especially looking forward to seeing partner activations built more deeply into the event experience, rather than just logos behind fences.”
On the jukola.com website, you can register for the competition, sign up as a volunteer, or explore other event information as well as the history of the Jukola Relay.
