In the IT sector, the systems and software are not the only things that evolve over time: so do people, communities and attitudes. As the WordPress scene evolves, what is the future of larger WordPress events and conferences such as WordCamps?
The WordPress community has been celebrated for its collaborative, welcoming and warm spirit. However, the recent disputes with the WordPress trademark and its use, as well as the negative impact it has had on the community is undoubtedly a lamentable chapter. It’s a hope shared by many that constructive dialogue and a renewed focus on shared open-source values will guide the community towards a renewed, shared vision and productive future.

WordCamps are currently evolving into more specialized events focusing on particular topics or targeting specific audiences within the WordPress scene, such as developers or designers. This approach addresses various concerns, like declining attendance at some local meetups post-pandemic, the significant costs associated with large flagship WordCamps, and a desire for more targeted learning and networking opportunities.
Inclusivity and Diversity
WordCamps are hubs for learning, networking and innovation. In order to get the most out of such a bubbling event, one needs to experience at least one WordCamp in person.
The WordPress scene is a very warm and welcoming one for newcomers. There are also new initiatives aimed at increasing inclusivity, such as events focused on underrepresented groups and youth engagement. What’s more, the WordCamp Central itself has undergone updates to better reflect the diverse range of WordPress events and resources available, all around the world.

The Ever-Evolving WordPress Scene
Discussions at recent major WordCamps have directly addressed the future of WordPress, strategies for marketing the platform, concerns over event attendance trends, and the need for sparking community engagement. The coming months and years will likely see WordCamps continue to adapt as the WordPress project and its community navigate these complex internal dynamics and the evolving needs of its global user base.
WordCamps in Finland
WordCamps have a strong history in Finland. In 2019, WordCamp Nordic was organized in Helsinki, and Seravo supported the event by sponsoring and volunteering. The conference brought together WordPress enthusiasts, developers, designers, and users from across the Nordic region and beyond.
Seravo supports WordPress events, but the conferences are also important for sharing knowledge and learning. See Seravo’s WordPress specialist Pekka Kortelainen’s session on wordpress.tv about WP-CLI, presented on WordCamp Europe 2024 in Turin, Italy.
New WordPress Conference – WP Suomi
While WordCamps in Finland have not been an annual occurrence since the pandemic era, an entirely new and independent WP Suomi WordPress conference will happen in Helsinki on October 10, 2025. WP Suomi invites all WordPress enthusiasts to join!
Whether you’re a freelancer, working in a digital agency, a developer working with WordPress, or if you’re simply interested in the IT sector and the opportunities of WordPress, participation is highly recommended! Come October, Seravo will of course be present at WP Suomi.

WordCamp Europe 2025
This week, the WordPress community gathers in Basel, Switzerland, as the biggest annual WordCamp Europe starts on Thursday. Seravo will of course attend the event as a sponsor, and we’re looking forward to one of the most important events of the year. Remember to follow Seravo’s social media accounts to see updates. See you soon in Basel!
