Greetings from WordCamp Europe 2025

Seravo supports WordPress events both locally and globally. Contributing to the WordPress project as well as meeting the community in person is an essential part of staying up to date and honing the expertise we have at Seravo. One of the largest WordPress conferences in the world, and the landmark of European WordPress events – WordCamp Europe – was held this year in Basel, Switzerland, on 5–7 June 2025, and Seravo attended the event as a sponsor, akin to previous years.

More than a WordPress Conference

The buzz may have subsided, but the energy from WCEU 2025 and the picturesque city of Basel is still palpable. Seravo’s team is back home, filled with new ideas, fond memories, and a renewed sense of community. WordCamp Europe was, as always, more than just a conference; it was a vibrant celebration of all things WordPress.

WCEU is a place where WordPress developers, designers, content creators, and business owners from across the globe came together to discuss the project, to mark out its future.

Highlights from WordCamp Europe 2025

Hosted at the Congress Center Basel, the event was a whirlwind of intensive learning and networking. The action kicked off on June 5th with a bustling Contributor Day, in whch many attendees, both new and experienced, dedicate their time to give back to the WordPress project. This collaborative spirit is the true cornerstone of the WordCamp experience and a powerful reminder of the strength of the open-source ethos.

The main conference days on June 6th and 7th were packed with a diverse range of insightful talks and workshops across multiple tracks. Throughout the sessions, several key themes emerged, sparking conversations in the hallways and over coffee. There was a strong focus on the capabilities of WordPress, the ever-critical importance of web accessibility, and thoughtful discussions on fostering and sustaining the global WordPress community.

FAIR Package Manager

At the independent Alt Ctrl Org event, which Seravo also sponsored, a significant new initiative for the WordPress ecosystem was unveiled: The FAIR Package Manager project (FAIR.pm). It introduces a decentralized, federated package manager for installing and updating WordPress core, plugins and themes, aiming to shift away from the current centralized model. Supported by the Linux Foundation, FAIR operates as a drop-in WordPress plugin that replaces the standard interactions with the centralized WordPress.org repository.

FAIR addresses concerns over risks related to the WP.org repo, such as single-point-of-failure risks, content moderation, and the desire for greater flexibility for developers and large-scale users. The success of the project will depend on its adoption as well as on its ability to prove its security and reliability over time. Overall, its existence signals a move towards a more distributed and potentially more resilient future for WordPress.

All Things WordPress

Have you ever thought that you can use WordPress in creative and personal ways, such as a bookmarking and notes tool, private Wikipedia or as a Mastodon instance? No matter whether you’re interested in multilingual WordPress, SEO, content, sustainability, performance or developing custom WordPress blocks, WCEU offered a plethora of topics and presentations to broaden your knowledge. You can watch all of the interesting presentations captured on video over on WordPress.tv!

Thank You & Until Next Time!

Beyond the conference halls, nestled on the banks of the mighty Rhine, Basel is Switzerland’s third-largest city and a captivating blend of history and modernity. The city offered a perfect backdrop for connecting with so many friends, partners, and community members, who had arrived to Basel from near and far. We had countless engaging conversations, shared our passion for secure and fast WordPress, and came away inspired by the collective energy of the WordPress community.

A huge thank you to the organizers, volunteers, speakers, and fellow sponsors who made WordCamp Europe 2025 such a memorable and well-executed event. Hope to see you all again next year at WCEU 2026 – in Kraków, Poland!
